Details: SCA, Medieval, Ovals, shields, elephants, center grips
Acrylic on canvas, mounted on metal shield with center boss.
Hand painted by Nancy Garbarini
Faux bronze shield with border and vignettes depicting elephant heads and muscular African male figures morphing into Roman Gladii swords. This is done in the “trompe l’oeil” (fool the eye) style, which makes the painting look almost 3-dimensional.
Design inspired by Italian Renaissance parade shields, which were elaborately decorated for ceremonial use.
