Hand Crafted Rectangular “War Door” Shield
Flat rectangular shield with hand painted Medusa and stitched rawhide edging.
Painting is inspired by Medusa from Ancient Greek mythology. Medusa is depicted as a horrifying female with snakes in placed of hair. Looking her in the eye would turn the beholder to stone. Her head was cut off an mounted on a shield to be used as a weapon in battle. The shield was eventually given to Athena.
Acrylic on canvas, mounted on wooden shield with stitched rawhide edging. There is one flaw on the back where the stitching barely catches the edging, but this does ot affect usability and does not appear on front. Several coats of clear sealant provide added protection. Back is stained black.
The shield was not made by me, but I did the painting.
